Skiing
Brie went to her 1st full day of ski lessons last weekend. Prior, she was skiing between people's legs and not learning how to stop. So this was good for her. She struggled and was put back in an easier group which I know was frustrating but by the end of the day she was riding the chairlift (3x!) and skiing really well. She even said her boots and skis "felt perfect" and what child says that??

election
I'm thankful Brie is not able to understand the true meaning of this election. Today, after a lovely inauguration that was held with tradition, class and dignity, I saw a display of women marching, writing terrible things on signs. I could go on…
I am not on a rampage to turn my little sweetheart into a conservative but she will not play a victim in society. She has every opportunity a man has in this world. Brie, if you are reading this someday, just know that you are not being pushed down by men…or an elected official. Never will you dumb yourself down to make a point. You will make your point by your perseverance and sheer will. I love you Brie. You are your own destiny. Love, Mommy

Halloween
Any guess what Brie is going to be for Halloween? Its an iconic monument that I actually walked down one time and my legs were shaking because there were so many steps…the Eiffel Tower! She will have a big pink satin hoop skirt, a purse with a poodle and a headband. She's excited and so is mommy!

Pronunciation
Ok, I just have to include this in the blog because its so funny! So, Brie can pronounce most things perfectly but for some reason she can't say "gymnastics" she says "jew"nastics…I have tried to correct her but she tells me she likes saying it that way! The Summer Olympics are on so maybe she's excited Team USA won the gold in Jewnastics!

1st day of 1st grade
Today is Brie's 1st day of 1st grade. In true Brie-fashion, she was awake at 6am dressing herself for school and was all excited. I took her to Target to pick out her outfit and she was very focused on wearing 'fashion spec' glasses to school so I let her have them and she was over the moon. She has 2 teachers this year Regan/Brooks and one of them in 7mo pregnant so for most of the year she'll have just one teacher. Their classroom was huge and Brie was one of the 1st kids to sit down on the mat with her legs crossed and hands in her lap. I can tell she really missed school. This year she'll be a "Busy Bird" instead of a Rainbow like she was in kindergarten. Go Brie!!

Sweet Child of Mine
A few weeks ago, I got notice from my firm that my position was being eliminated. And since I am always truthful and honest with Brie, I told her. She, of course, is worried but doesn't show it. She knows that when we go to Target its not about toys and clothes. Its about buying generic and spending wisely.
So, the other day I set up a playmate with her and Hayden, her friend from Lakeside Academy and I guess she found a penny by the pool and saved it for me. When I came to pick her up she felt as if she was helping us out during this uncertain time.
I just love her thought and compassion. I hope she reads this someday and knows how much I love her for that.
